Commercial for personal trainer Hajni Balazs, directed, produced and shot by Adam Hudson on ARRI Amira with Zeiss CP.2 lenses, shoulder-mounted and in natural light. Cinematography by Adam Hudson, London Director of Photography.
01 The Visuals
Fitness commercials offer an exciting opportunity to push visual energy and physicality. From the outset, it was clear that momentum needed to sit at the heart of this piece. I developed a lookbook that combined raw energy with bold compositions and dynamic framing, creating a visual language that felt immediate, immersive and driven by movement.
An early creative decision was to maintain a high level of energy throughout the film. We achieved this primarily through shoulder-mounted camera work, placing the viewer directly within the action and allowing the cinematography to move with the performer. Moments of stillness were used sparingly and with intention, creating contrast and giving key moments space to land.
The film was also shaped predominantly by natural light. While fitness commercials can often lean towards heavily controlled or over-lit environments, I wanted to retain a greater sense of realism and human connection. By embracing the available light and the natural character of each space, the imagery felt raw and authentic while still maintaining the polish and visual impact expected of a commercial production.
02 The Brief
Hajni Balazs is a personal trainer and coach with a background in competitive gymnastics and strength training, as well as experience competing in ATHX Games and HYROX. This project offered an opportunity to create a commercial that reflected both her physical discipline and the mindset that underpins her approach to training.
As a small-scale production, I also took on the roles of Director and Producer. This allowed me to work closely with Hajni throughout the development process, building a clear understanding of her brand and the story we wanted to communicate.
From the outset, I wanted the film to be more than simply a montage of visually striking fitness imagery. Through our early conversations, themes of self-belief, discipline and pushing beyond perceived limits began to emerge. I developed these ideas into a script centred on the belief that meaningful progress comes through commitment and perseverance — with the understanding that the journey will never be easy. The resulting film became a concise expression of Hajni’s brand — combining high-energy fitness imagery with a clear narrative and message. More than simply showcasing her abilities, the commercial was designed to give future clients and collaborators a stronger understanding of the values, ambition and mindset behind her work.
